Use of personal data
Fidelity is committed to maintaining your personal data in accordance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act and will take all reasonable steps to ensure that your personal data is kept secure against unauthorised access, loss, disclosure or destruction.
If you use the Fidelity internet service to access your account and to effect transactions, encryption tools are used to protect your data.
The personal information which you provide to Fidelity will be used for a number of different purposes, including:
- to administer the product or service for which you apply;
- to comply with legal and regulatory requirements;
- to identify you when you contact Fidelity;
- for internal analysis and research; and
- to offer you investment services and products (except where you were introduced to Fidelity by an intermediary or if you ask Fidelity not to do so), and to help Fidelity to develop new ones.
Third parties
Fidelity may use external third parties to process your personal information on its behalf in accordance with these purposes.
Fidelity may share your personal information with the following third parties:
- your financial adviser and any other party to the business relationship whom you tell Fidelity about (please notify us in writing if you no longer wish us to share your personal information with any such party
- other associated or affiliated Fidelity group companies for the purposes set out in this privacy policy
- the Unclaimed Assets Register, in connection with the possible recovery by you of (for example) unclaimed distribution payments
- other organisations for any of the following purposes:
(i) compliance with any legal or regulatory requirements
(ii) to protect Fidelity and its customers from theft and fraud
(iii) to take appropriate steps if Fidelity considers your levels of trading in Fidelity's funds or in other funds made available by Fidelity to be short-term, excessive or disruptive.
Except as outlined above or otherwise required by law, your personal information will not be passed to anyone without your permission. To comply with Money Laundering Regulations, Fidelity may need to request additional evidence of identity from you, and may use a credit reference agency for this purpose (who will record that an enquiry has been made).
Please note that the personal information which you provide will be processed by Fidelity or associated or affiliated companies, who may be based outside of the EEA. This may involve the transfer of data by electronic media including the internet.
Where your data is transferred outside of the UK, Fidelity will ensure that the recipient agrees to keep your information confidential and hold it securely in accordance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
E-mail addresses and fax numbers are not collected or used without your specific permission to do so.
With limited exceptions, you may ask for a copy of the personal information which Fidelity holds on you. Fidelity is allowed by law to make a charge for this. Linking sites
For visitors to the Fidelity website through a link from another site, Fidelity is able to record through which link the Fidelity site was visited. Please note that Fidelity is not affiliated with, nor does it sponsor or endorse, any linking websites owned by third parties and it does not endorse any product or service offered by such linking sites.
We do not collect any personally identifiable data from you but, should you subsequently become a customer, we will know the source through which you were introduced.
Cookies
Fidelity uses pixels, or transparent GIF files, to help manage our online advertising. These GIF files are provided by our ad management partner, DoubleClick. These files enable DoubleClick to recognize a unique cookie on your web browser, which in turn enables us to learn which advertisements bring users to our website.
The cookie was placed by us, or by another advertiser who works with DoubleClick. With both cookies and Spotlight technology, the information that we collect and share is anonymous and not personally identifiable.
