London, 9 July 2008: The Fidelity FundsNetwork™ Platform for Learning* and the Financial Services Skills Council (“FSSC”) are to jointly host a series of IFA Careers Forums in different locations around the UK in late July and August.

The forums have been designed in response to research conducted by the FSSC which showed a lack of awareness surrounding the opportunities in financial services among school leavers, graduates and careers advisers. The FSSC and FundsNetwork aim to begin to address this through the IFA Careers Forums, which will support the development of job profiles by identifying the main roles within the advice sector, the entry routes and the necessary skills and qualification requirements.

Sara Powell, Head of Training & Professional Development, FundsNetwork Platform for Learning, said: “Findings in the research conducted by the FSSC highlighted that there is a lack of new entrants into the sector and that the entry routes and career paths through the industry can be unclear. The FundsNetwork Platform for Learning is working with the FSSC to find solutions. While we have a long way to go, we believe that hosting the IFA Careers Forum is a significant step in the right direction.”

Sarah Thwaites, the FSSC’s Director of Skills Development: “It’s important that careers information about financial services offers an accurate picture of the industry and reflects employers’ views. The FSSC is developing resources to ensure that careers advisers have clear and up-to-date information about opportunities. These forums will help us to develop careers information which has the sector’s seal of approval”.
