Our view

person-circle-filled

  • The fund is managed by Ben Whitmore, who built a successful career at Schroders before joining Jupiter in 2006
  • This is a high-conviction ideas portfolio, run by a manager who favours a contrarian stance

The fund is managed by Ben Whitmore, who built a successful career at Schroders before joining Jupiter in 2006. He graduated from Cambridge University and has been a fund manager since 1998. Whitmore is a bottom-up stock picker who manages money with a clear, independent, value bias.

This is a high-conviction ideas portfolio, run by a manager who favours a contrarian stance. Whitmore’s approach aims to be independent of sentiment and momentum, offering investors exposure to unloved but financially sound stocks.

Whitmore is one of the highest conviction contrarian managers in the UK equity universe. He seeks stocks which are cheap on specific metrics. The portfolio reflects an amalgamation of Whitmore's best ideas and is not constrained in terms of number of stocks or risk against the benchmark.

The manager says that he wishes to spend his time measuring value rather than generating information, buying what’s cheap today and letting other people predict the future.

Jupiter is a UK-based boutique which seeks to add value for clients through the delivery of investment outperformance over the medium to long term. In June 2010 Jupiter Fund Management was listed on the London Stock Exchange.
