Corporate citizenship

How we support charities within our community

Fidelity is committed to making a difference to communities local to our offices and where our employees live. We are also keen to support and encourage our employees to be active members of their communities.

Our support is directed through our Corporate Citizenship Programme and the Fidelity UK Foundation. We also consider social, environmental and ethical issues in our investment research where these will have a material impact on either investment risk or potential returns.

Fidelity UK Foundation

Since 1988, the Fidelity UK Foundation has sought to make a lasting measurable contribution to society. The Foundation is an independent charity supported by Fidelity International.

Our criteria for support

Fidelity International plays an active part in making a difference to our communities, especially in the areas where we have offices or our employees live. We provide sponsorship for local charity projects and events that gives us and our employees an opportunity to help them raise further funds.

We favour organisations that:

  • Support communities within 20km of any Fidelity office
  • Where we support national causes, we would expect the cause to have a local reach, where practicable
  • Have a good reputation in the local community
  • Provide the opportunity for the Fidelity International brand name to have a presence
  • Provide the opportunity for media activity
  • Are registered charities or not-for-profit organisations
  • Organise fundraising events that directly benefit their service users
  • Provide opportunities for employee involvement
  • Benefit the wider community rather than an exclusive audience

What we don't sponsor

There are some organisations or activities we do not support and these are:

  • Religious, political and animal-support charities (except environmental or conservation-related animal causes)
  • Individuals and individual schools
  • Events for exclusive audiences such as black tie events
  • High-risk activities, such as parachute jumps, motor racing and abseiling

In addition, we do not usually support sports events, clubs and teams, nor advertise in charity event programmes, diaries or directories.

We have discretion to support small locally based organisations who deliver services at a grass roots level. These funds must go to a project that directly benefits the local community.

Fidelity International seeks to support a number of charitable causes to improve the lives of others, support the environment in which we operate and to generate employee engagement and pride in our activities.

Our global programme of corporate citizenship activity reflects our values of: Innovation, Excellence and Integrity and to actively engage with those communities where we have a presence. As such, we concentrate on:

Charitable Causes

Wherever Fidelity International operates we will seek to support charitable causes with the aim of improving the lives of others. In addition to the charitable investments made by Fidelity's philanthropic Foundations, we do this by engaging with our employees so they decide on the local causes we support and thereby help to build better futures for the communities in which we operate.

Our Environment

Our environment is very important to us and our employees. Wherever we operate we will seek to implement good environmental practices for the benefits of our employees and our communities, as well as participating in environmental initiatives for the benefit of the wider population.

Our Employees

We seek to engage with our employees and invite them to participate in a range of activities relating to corporate citizenship. This can include local fund raising for charitable causes which the company supports with grant matching funds raised, sponsorship of charitable and community events, and employee volunteering opportunities. The aim is to encourage employee participation and engagement, generating pride in our association with such worthwhile causes and at the same time, giving back to our communities.
