Zenova's FX range passes tests for current, future EU chemical rules

(Sharecast News) - Zenova Group announced on Thursday that its Zenova FX fluid and components had successfully passed independent tests by external laboratories. The AIM-traded firm said the Zenova FX range of extinguishers conformed to all current and upcoming EU regulations concerning PFOA, PFOS, and PFAS.

EU Regulation 2017/1000 restricts the production, use, and emission of PFOA (C8), setting maximum levels at 25 parts per billion (ppb) for PFOA and 1000 ppb for foam concentrates, with usage permitted until 31 December 2022, when containment is not possible, and until 3 July 2025, when containment is possible.

The Zenova FX fluid was tested under the EP231X standard, showing PFOA and PFOS levels at less than 20 ppb, well below the regulatory limits, ensuring compliance even beyond July 2025.

Regarding PFAS, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) had proposed a maximum limit of one part per million (ppm) for fire extinguishing liquids, with final approval expected in 2025.

Zenova FX fluid's test results, using the EP231P targeted methods, revealed trace elements of regulated PFAS at seven ppb, significantly below the proposed one ppm limit.

As a result, the Zenova FX extinguisher range was fully compliant with current and anticipated ECHA regulations, maintaining legal usage even after new legislation was enacted.

"These independent laboratory tests confirm that the Zenova FX fluid in all of our extinguisher range is not only one of the most effective extinguishing agents but also one of the environmentally cleanest and fully compliant with existing and even with planned future EU legislation," said chief executive officer Thomas Melchior.

At 1520 BST, shares in Zenova Group were up 11.04% at 1.5p.
