Tuesday preview: French election deadline, US Jolts report in focus
(Sharecast News) - France will continue to be front and centre on investors' minds on Tuesday, ahead of the deadline for candidates in roughly 311 of the country's 557 constituencies to announce whether or not they will stand in the second round of elections on 7 July. At least three candidates qualified for the run-off vote in those constituencies and the possibility existed that many of the lesser-voted ones would abstain, in order to maximise the chances of keeping the far-right National Rally from clinching an absolute majority.
The deadline to file one's candidacy was at 1800 BST.
Against that backdrop, the European Central Bank's vice-president, Luis De Guindos, would deliver a speech at 0730 BST.
He would be followed by his boss Christine Lagarde at 1330 BST.
Investors would also be keeping tabs on the release of preliminary consumer price data for the euro area in June at 0900 BST.
Stateside, at 1400 BST the Department of Labor was scheduled to publish its JOLTS labour market report for May.
