The Fund will invest at least 70% in equities (and their related securities) of UK companies (those domiciled, incorporated or having significant business in UK and those which are listed in the UK). The Investment Manager will focus on companies it believes to be undervalued and whose recovery potential is not recognised by the market. It is not restricted in terms of size or industry. The Fund is actively managed without reference to a benchmark.

Our view
Why we like the fund:
This fund invests primarily in companies listed in the UK, although it may invest smaller amounts into companies listed outside the UK. The manager is a seasoned UK investor and has been running this strategy for a long time. He benefits from an extensive, high-quality pool of company researchers in the wider team. Given the manager's contrarian approach, his long experience as an investor is a distinct advantage. Being contrarian requires an even temperament that is honed over a few market cycles. He is also willing to invest in smaller companies, an area in which Fidelity has expertise in the UK market.
How to use the fund:
This fund could be helpful for clients seeking a sensibly managed UK equity fund within a wider investment portfolio. It is higher risk and its capital value may be subject to fairly substantial but usually fairly transitory drawdowns. Investors will need to take a long-term view of ten years or more. This fund may blend well with a fund like the Liontrust UK Growth Fund.
